All my wife could say is "Wow"

I removed all the popcorn ceiling material from our ceilings two weeks ago. Along with that 70's and 80's spider web infested, dingy looking, nearly totally impossible to clean, crap, I also threw out my leisure suit. Get rid of similar junk at the same time I always say. When the ceilings were bare, the thought came to mind that maybe it was time to put some lights in the ceiling of our bedroom. It is a rather large room at 16' by 36' and the only light it got was from windows by day and two end table lamps one on each side of our California King sized bed, and a single hanging light fixture in one corner of the room by night. It looked pretty much as lit up as a nightclub frequented by couples who were hoping that no one, including their spouses, would ever know that they had been there.At first I considered just an ordinary light fixture and discarded that idea after about 4 1/2 seconds. This is a pretty elegant room, if I do say so myself, and since I built it myself, I do say so. There is a sunken tiled fireplace in one of the corners of the room. The bed is made from 2' thick solid Oak and has pedestal frame with matching oak headboard that I built for my wife and myself. The bed is placed on a two step platform, meaning that from the floor, you step up two steps before you enter the bed. The room is carpeted with blue carpet and matching color walls. Ordinary fixtures didn't seem appropriate. This room needed a chandelier. Actually it needed two of them, one on each side of the bed. I was hoping that my wife agreed, and I was actually surprised that she did. She is considerably on the conservative side, (personally and politically) and these chandeliers are anything but conservative. These are bright and flashy.This chandelier is just gorgeous. The instructions are certainly nothing for the dealer to brag about, and they will be quite confusing and mean very little to someone who has no knowledge of wiring. However, If you have even a basic knowledge of electricity and some common sense, which I agree isn't exactly in plentiful supply these days, the wiring isn't a big deal at all. If you don't know anything about wiring, simply take the main two or three parts of the assembly to a Home Depot, or similar, and I'm sure they could help you very easily. "Complexity is primarily an illusion. It generally disappears with understanding." You just need a little knowledge, and from that point you can do this yourself very easily. I did know a little about wiring and I had the basic part of the two lamps I bought, assembled in less than ½ hour, another 20 minutes each to install them in our ceiling.The awesome hanging crystal pieces were a little intimidating, because there are a lot of them, but looking at the photo of the finished chandelier, which is really the only useful instructions you are given, and again using some common sense, my wife and I had the first one done in maybe an hour and a half or less, and the second one in about ½ hour. My request to the dealer would be to include a clearer photo of the finished chandelier along with the product, not just a faded blurry photocopy, if you are not planning to give any proper instructions.My wife is from St Petersburg, Russia and there are many palaces and beautiful houses all the way from Peter the Great and beyond. Chandeliers are a big part of these homes and buildings. We certainly don't in any way place our home in the catagory with any of these historic and awesome buildings, but my point is, these chandeliers that we have in our home now would fit in just fine in many of those buildings. The colors that the crystals produce are really beautiful. Even when the light is turned off in the bedroom, it picks up light from lamps in other rooms and returns colors.You know how they always say, "those must be just some extra parts left over?" Usually that happens because you screwed up and didn't do it right. That, of course, could happen here too, but even if you do assemble it correctly, you will have some extra parts left over when you are done assembling these chandeliers. I assume the dealer planned it that way. Both of mine had some extra parts left over and I will keep all of mine, because this is crystal. Crystal can break. Having some replacement parts most likely will come in handy someday. Probably after cleaning it sometime in the future. Finding replacement parts at your neighborhood hardware store might not be that productive.When we were done assembling and installing these, all that my wife could say was Wow!! I had to agree. We now have a very elegant adult playroom and sleeping area.

Complex but Totally Worth It

Wow. Our nursery looks amazing. The chandelier is absolutely gorgeous. The materials are all high quality crystal and blown glass. But I will say, it did come in a million little pieces. It took us about 2 hours to put together (not bad) and the instructions were not so helpful. I will say that my finacee is a general contractor so he was able to do all of the wiring, which actually didn't look that complicated, but he knew what he was doing. You will definitely need someone who knows a little bit about electricity. But for the price this chandelier can't be beat. We looked everywhere at lighting and something like this at Lamps Plus would probably cost $800 or more! I would also add that it fits well in our small sized room, but it definitely is big enough that is makes the room look a little over the top. I love it though.
