Patience and understanding = pretty good headphones
By Dr. Sam Beckett
I was specifically looking for a more "open" stereo headset to use with my iPhone in my office. By open I mean I was deliberately avoiding in-ear and around-ear headphones, because I needed to be able to hear my surroundings rather than be isolated from them. (I think too many negative reviews come from reviewers that don't understand how these, by design, do *not* block outside noise.) And by headset, I mean stereo headphones + mic + 3-button-remote for full iPhone control. This is the "understanding" part of my review title. This makes for a very small number of headphones to choose from:- these, Sennheiser HD 238i Mid-Sized Headset with Detailed Sound Reproduction - Black- a similar Sennheiser product, Sennheiser PX 100-II i Light Weight Supra-Aural Headset with 3 Button Control for i-Pod,i-Phone and i-Pad (Black)- Bose OE2i Audio Headphones - Black- Bowers & Wilkins P5 Mobile HiFi Stereo HeadphonesI didn't need the PX-100-ii's portability. I've suffered enough Bose products to know I detest them. The P5's are too rich for my blood. So that leaves these, the HD 238i.First, they are decently built. For headphones in this price range, the materials are good and the build is tight. Perhaps the cable could be a tad thicker, but negative reviews on this are definitely overblown. (If you want ridiculously wimpy cables, go try a pair of Klipsch Image S4i In-Ear Headset .)Second, they are comfortable. They're tight enough on the head without a strong "clamping" feel. The ear pads are very comfy, getting only a little warm during extended listening.Third, they sound very good - not great, but then again, these are only $50 now (including the "Apple Tax" for remote+mic), so it's too much to expect audiophile quality. However, they need a good 20 hours of play time before they sound good, hence the "patience" part of my review title. As outside reviews have noted, these don't sound good at all out-of-the-box: bass sounds bloated, mids sound hollow, and highs sound scratchy. Now, bass is under control but still providing warmth, the mids have perked up a lot, and the highs, while still present, are much smoother, as is the overall delivery. I listen to pop, rock, vocals, and jazz, and all work well with these headphones. I do wish the sound was more "open," though, and these still sound a little "bright" - minus 1/2 star.On a similar note, calls come through decently. Incoming audio is not bad, though a little muffled. I've had 0 complaints from callers regarding the mic.Last, the controls are... acceptable (minus another 1/2 star). All of the buttons work, but they are all too tight and depress too little to feel if they've been "clicked." The center control button is particularly problematic, since it's recessed compared to the others. You'll be able to get a single-click out of it without problem, but double-clicks are tricky, and triple-clicks are almost impossible.Bottom line: This is your iPhone stereo headset, if you're on a budget, need full iPhone controls, and don't want to be isolated from your environment. They sound good and work well, and their few issues can be chalked up to their low price.

So good I got chills
By nathan
I finally got these headphones about months of research and debate. When I saw them for $50 on Amazon, I jumped the gun and had them within 3 days (I love you Prime)I let the headphones burn for a few hours before I put them on. At low-medium levels, the quality was so crisp and clear I actually got the chills. I've owned several Klipsch, Sennheisers, and Shure headphones/earphones and this one is by far the best. It's comfortable, even for long periods of time, very light and sound amaaaazing. As others noted, the best features of these are the mids and highs, and although the lows are present, they're not thumping (which is what I prefer anyway). Some users complain about the open aire design feature. I understand the sound leaks through and there's no noise cancellation, but again, this is a feature! Those complaining about these things didn't know what they were getting in the first place. Yes, the sound leaks through at medium/high levels and others will hear it if they're around. Yes, there is no noise cancellation because its open aire design. Yes, that's what makes these headphones sound so amazing.Overall, I would highly recommend these headphones to anyone who enjoys great quality, sound, and a bargain.
