I purchased this and another cheaper coat rack, the cheaper one costing about $38. This one is more than 4x the cost but the quality of the design and construction almost make it worth it. As others have noted, the base is huge and substantial making this very stable. The pole comes in three parts that screw together, no instructions required but the pieces are labeled a, b, c.The pole itself is quite substantial at about three inches in diameter. The weight of each segment is substantial but deceptively light given the volume of each piece. Fully assembled I would say the height is about 5' 8".Compare this to the cheaper coat fach that I also purchased which has legs for a base, the pole is only 1.5 in thick and the pieces don't screw together as securely. It's functional but not that attractive or very high quality. Basically like most things in life you get what you pay for. I'm using the cheaper one in my bedroom and this Umbra at the front door. I love the way it looks.
