Works well overall, but a few caveats for would-be buyers

Before anyone buys one of these units, I urge you to search and read other reviews here on Amazon for "floating wall multimedia storage." I read many of those, and doing so helped me know what exactly I would be buying and what sorts of issues I would encounter in assembling my triple floating wall unit. I also urge you to check carefully the various vendors to see who offers the best value.That said, I am overall pleased with this storage unit. It looks good in my listening alcove, especially from a bit of distance, and improves access to my CD collection, at least to the 80 percent of it I could fit into this cabinet.A number of other reviewers noted that only one side of the shelves was painting, and because this unit hangs, the unpainted shelves detract from the look. Thanks to this tip, I painted the underside of 12 shelves that with glossy black spray paint, and I am glad I did so. (And if you already have yours installed with unpainted shelves, it would not be a big chore to empty your cabinet and paint these. I also picked up some extra wood screws for attaching the mounting section from which the cabinet hangs---these are not included with the hardware for some reason---and I attached this piece to the wall studs with six of them.It took me a bit over an hour to assemble the cabinet. Getting the three cardboard backing sections to line up was a bit frustrating, but attaching the top proved the bigger challenge as the predrilled holes in the top section did not quite match the predrilled holes in the interior vertical supports. So I had to drill some additional holes and slightly damaged the coating on the top. Because my unit sits so high, one cannot see the entire top shelf, so this damage, in my case, was not consequential.The instructions are OK, but keep a picture of the finished unit close by to help guide you anyway.Again, echoing what others have noted, because of cabinet's design, the couple of CDs closest to the sides are hidden by the vertical cross pieces. This feature can actually be an asset if you are a closet Simply Red fan or you want to keep your friends from finding the CDs they loaned you. It is also a bit of a pain.A final word: if you are hanging one of these cabinets over your audio gear, do some careful measuring first so that your wall storage cabinet does not prevent you from opening the dust cover on your turntable.
