comfortable but flimsy

Amazingly comfortable in the wet humid air of India but within two weeks the zipper at the knees failed and I had to wear them as shorts only. Not what I expected from a $60 pair of pants. I'd suggest finding another brand with the same material or a model without a zipper.

Later, Skeeters

I took these with me to the Galapagos Islands. I specifically chose this pair for the insect shield, knowing that they would be lightweight but durable enough for what I was going to put them through. They held up great on the islands fending off garua and some pretty intense layers of mud. Bonus that the zipper converter made beach detail doable with the same pants/shorts. It is worth noting that the wash instructions specifically say to avoid fabric softeners. This is often a care instruction given to garments with waterproofing, though I suspect it has to do with the insect barrier in this case.Back at home in the Sonoran desert they are still pulling their weight. I haven't snagged myself on a cactus yet but the thin material probably won't stand up to that sort of abuse. The conversion legs are great in what passes for Winter around here, with cool evening and morning temps giving way to shorts-worthy heat by afternoon. I have not experienced the zipper failure issue myself, but I don't use these as everyday pants either; they just pull hiking detail. The odorless insect shield is working well in both places. I didn't meet any mosquitoes in the Galapagos at any time while alternating between my two pairs of these pants. Back home I've waded into some pretty thick clouds of mosquitoes (we like some of the same places) and been bothered comparatively little. A few individuals seem to get brave these days which may mean the built in layer is wearing out after seven months. All in all I'd call that fair, if slightly less than the advertised "70 washes".

Works for me
By D. Wyatt
These are very lightweight hiking pants so put your expectations in the proper prospective with regards to durability. I have a closet full of North Face outdoor pants which I like immensely and they wear like iron. These are lighter weight than all of those. I purchased these to specifically keep the blood suckers under control (insect shield) when hiking after the snow melt. They do that well. Plenty of room for movement. If you wear them for everyday use, you will probable get zipper failure like one of the other reviewers mentioned. The fit was good though I wish they had an integrated belt like my North Face pants. Happy so far with these.
