Mad Professor Tiny Orange Phaser Product Description:

Product Description

Unlike most vintage phasers the Tiny Orange Phaser is especially tuned for electric guitar. The tone is very musical and balanced thanks to carefully hand matched parts in the circuit. With the three controls you can fine-tune the phaser effect to your taste. Speed control sets the modulation speed and Resonance adjust the tone of the effect, making it sharper when increased. The Mix control works in an unique way and at 12 o'clock it disables the phasing effect. If you turn the Mix control CCW (left) you will get a deep phasing effect. CW rotation (right) will adjust a lighter phasing effect. The Mix control is the key for setting phaser tone from mild into deep effect. Speed range and amplitude of the internal oscillator are set to allow high phaser speeds without getting erratic. You can find classic phasing sounds at about 12 o'clock Speed setting, the lower settings produce a nice floating "Vibe"-type of sound. Like all Mad Professor pedals TOP is hand made in Finland using only premium components, to give years of trouble free operation with superb musical tone.

* SPEED: controls the speed of modulation
* RESONANCE: sets the resonance (tone) of the effect
* MIX: no effect at 12 o'clock, CW and CWW settings controls the depth of two different phase tones

* Supply voltage range: 8 to 10VDC
* Current consumption at 9VDC: 26mA
* Input inpedance: 500K Ohm's

5The Rolls Royce of Phasers
By Matt the Brat
True Bypass, Mix knob, two different phase sounds in one pedal... This is not your run of the mill phaser; it, like most Mad Professor pedals, is the Rolls Royce of its kind.Having owned both the block and script hand-wired Phase 90s, this pedal is a breath of fresh air and lets you hear what the phase effect should sound like. MXRs current phasers take over your sound when engaged or disengaged with their buffered bypass. Expect a loss of everything you worked to achieve by purchasing your guitars and amps. You'll lose tone and touch sensitivity with both pedals and you'll get brittle swooshing with the block Phase 90 that can't be dialed out with the pedal's one knob. The hand-wired model isn't as brittle or extreme as the script model, but it still chokes your tone in the same manner that the block model does. So... this is a review of the Tiny Orange Phaser, why am I trashing the Phase 90? Well, because everything that is wrong with the Phase 90, is right with the TOP.The Tiny Orange Phaser is not harsh in any way. It sounds natural and like it is part of your sound instead of sitting on top of it. The pedal's mix knob lets you do two things. 1. You can dial in the amount of effected tone you want to mix with your clean sound. 2. You can pick between two phase sounds, one traditional, and one thin and bright. With the Mix knob at noon, that's your clean sound. Moving to the left you mix in traditional phase sound that is deep and thick sounding. Moving to the right you mix in a bright and thin sounding phase that works really well with clean rhythm playing. The resonance knob is hard to explain because it doesn't simply add resonance... It instead seems to take you across a spectrum of sounds... It is actually more of a tone knob.The only knock against the TOP is that it can't do extreme sounds. It is a completely mellow and laid back pedal that is perfect for what I'm doing, but you'll have to look elsewhere if you want super fast phasing... I'd suggest the Keeley Phaser if that's your thing. I'd only suggest the hand-wired script Phase 90 if you don't care in the slightest about tone loss or if you're going to put the pedal in your chain to record it and then remove it when you're not using it.
