After thorough research, Pearl discovered that the inner ply of a drum shell has the greatest effect on the tonal quality of the drum. Therefore, putting Birch on the inner ply of these drums gives them a naturally “EQ’d,” punchy tone with enhanced projection and sustain. 6 plies in the rack tom shells and 8 plies in the floor tom and bass drum shells provide an amazingly balanced sound, unprecedented for this category.

Beautiful sound, but has some visual flaws

I purchased this set approxomately two years ago (sight unseen) Pearl Vision VSX925S/B436 Drum Kit, Strata Red (Cymbals Not Included), right before a big show. When I received them, I fell in love with the beauty of mixture of red and black. The addition of the hardware accenting this beauty by being (what was called) black chrome, was breathtaking. I also purchased a Gibralter Stealth Rack unit (Gibraltar GSVMS Stealth Vertical Mounting System Package)to showcase these drums. Not only do these drums have an amazing visual quality, they also have an amazing sound. Easily tuned, excellent punch, great tone and minimal ovetones - these drums are a dream to listen to, and a dream to play. Well the show went off without a hitch, the drums sounded amazing, and they were recieved with rave reviews.Since that time, my band (Collideascope) recorded our third CD using these drums - "Be Seeing You." Check out our bands page on facebook to get an example of the sound of these drums.There is one flaw however. The "black chrome" seems to flake off of some of the hardware. One suggestion would be to offer this set with the regular chrome package, or at least to make certain that the "black chrome" is of high enough quality not to flake off. My second suggestion would be to "powdercoat" the hardware. Now THAT would be a cool hardware coating.
