very nice!

We think this guitar has a nice sound and nice classical look. Its sized at approx 31"x10.75x3.25", nut width 1.5", and scale length 19". It was smaller than the Lucida LK-2-1/4 Student Model Classical Guitar, 1/4 Size (approx 31"x11.75"x3.25") but larger than the Manolo uke guitar (30"x8.5"x 3, nut width 1/75", scale length 19"). It fits well in the Lanikai Baritone Ukulele Gig Bag.

1/4 Guitar

This guitar is perfect for a young child (especially if his Mommy or Daddy can tune it daily). The guitar is sturdy and the sound is good. The nylon strings easily loosen, though, so if you're looking for perfect sound, you're not going to have it. My grandson is a little over 2 years of age and his daddy is a guitarist, so he's been exposed to guitars for all his life. He loves "playing" his dad's guitars, but now that he has his own guitar and it is lightweight and sized for him, he carries it wherever he goes and "plays" it for anyone who will listen. He actually strums the guitar in time to the songs he sings and it sounds quite good. We all love it!

not the same guitar

I bought a Valencia 1/4 VG-160 several years ago. It is a nice-sounding, well made little guitar, made in Spain. I needed another for my students, so I ordered this one. The model name is the same, and I think some of the body parts might be the same, but the neck/head are longer, the assembly work is sloppy, and the finish work is haphazard. It has the same label inside, but now has MADE IN CHINA on it. Not to say there aren't some good Chinese-made guitars out there, but this isn't it...yet. Hopefully these were the first this shop made, and they're getting better? The first one they sent had such poor assembly and finish work that I had to return it, the 2nd is better but still not nearly the quality of my older one. The sound is OK but not great; I will be putting high quality high-tension strings on it which should improve the sound so I can make a proper comparison with the older one. I gave it 3 stars because it is playable, and is a good starter instrument for small students, if you can get one that is put together and finished properly. Playable guitars in this size are rare, and if the assembly and finish were were consistently good this would be a 5 star instrument. This guitar was backordered several months before I finally got it in late December of 2011. Perhaps they sold out of the Spanish-made ones, and just started making them in China? Note that the current version of this instrument is a few inches longer than the older one (does NOT fit in a 1/4 size guitar bag or baritone uke case as the old one does, both the guitars they sent in December 2011 were the same length and did not fit in the cases I have for 1/4 size guitars, so I am using a 1/2 size bag, which is too big but works OK).
