Product Description

The WoodRiver Block Plane is based on the venerable Stanley #65 low angle and #18 standard angle Knuckle Cap design, generally considered one of best block plane designs around. With the widely recognized comfortable chrome plated Knuckle Cap, these block planes look like the standard and low angle versions of yester year. Upon closer inspection youll notice changes to the base castings which not only strengthen historically weak points of the original design, but also improve the blade bedding area. Improved blade adjustment mechanisms allow for crisp, easy adjustment of the blades using the rear adjustment knob. The adjustable mouth is very smooth to operate and allows fine tuning of the mouth for work ranging from coarse to creating whisper thin shavings. The stress relieved ductile iron castings are precision machined, flat and square. Each plane is outfitted with a high carbon tool steel tool blade, which is hardened to Rc60-64 for maximum edge retention and ground to a 25 degrees bevel. We recommend sharpening the blades prior to use, however theyre impressively sharp right out of the box.

4Very good buy and good performer
    By G. Robinson
I got this on sale at woodcraft (sorry Amazon) and compared to the alternates it is a real bargain. It is great for cleaning up end grain, small tear outs and edges. The one I got was true and ready to go out of the box. All I had o do was wipe the protective gunk off the cap and iron. The cap iron is released by pulling up on the knuckle, a nice touch. I did a little cleanup on Lyptus, hard maple and teak end grain. It worked OK out of the box and better after sharpening.Compared to the LV and LN it doesn't have the available specialty irons (toothed or high angle). In fact Woodcraft doesn't carry any irons?Compared to the competition LV is $55 more and LN $65 more. Yes they have more options and the LN better build quality but not IMHO worth the premium--unless you want to avoid Chinese built planes.

    5New to hand planes
    By OnLIneShopper
I am new to hand planes. But after much research and talking with users I find this plane a good compromise to the high prices of planes Made in the USA. I followed the instructions posted on u-tube on how to remove packaging , clean and touch up the blade Google "Wood River Planes" in the list you will see a video posted that talks about removing the packaging, wiping down, putting a final edge on the blade and making adjustments.. I am practicing making consistent strokes. Next purchase will be a number 4 or 5. I highly recommend these planes to all.
