Light and functional, but overpriced
By William Joe Drummond
I wear contact lenses, and glare outdoors is a big problem. I had a pair of Randolph aviator sunglasses, but they were heavy and slid down my nose. Aviator sunglasses have spade-type earpieces and don't have much purchase along the side of one's head. As a result, glare was still seeping in.After doing a couple of days in research I came upon the Scheyden brand, of which I was ignorant until I began my investigation. The first thing that hits you is the price. At $200 this is what one would expect to pay for prescription lenses.I found a distressed seller on eBay, who had a pair he was willing to sell for $100, plus $8 shipping. He had bought them for golfing purposes, but decided they just wouldn't do.I was apprehensive, thinking I had overbought. But my reservations have disappeared. I was pleasantly surprised by their light weight. The wrap-around design keeps out the sideways light. The lenses themselves seem distortion-free. They are super comfortable. After attaching a cheap cloth lanyard, I was good to go. At $108 it was a worthwhile purchase, but at $200, no way.
