Top notch tools, case leaves much to be desired
By Ron
I bought this set on sale from Sears for much less than the Amazon price. I bought a Craftsman mechanic's tool set specifically because they are still made entirely in the USA, unlike many Craftsman off the shelf ratchets. The case is junk. The drawers will fall out when you're carrying it around. A metal tool box is in order. I cut a 1/2 sheet of plywood to fit under the lid of my Husky top chest (just under 24x12) and by drilling holes with some forstner bits I am able to keep all of the sockets, ratchets, and my breaker bars neat and well organized. You can also remove the trays entirely and keep them in your tool box, but they take up quite a bit of room. The sockets will move around when your toolbox bounces, but for a stationary tool box, they work well. The ratchets are merely okay. Like most ratchets they only have a light coating of oil to lubricate the mechanisms. Remove the slip ring, pack the mechanism with grease, reassemble, and they will perform much better. You probably have a favorite ratchet already - use that with these sockets and you won't be dissapointed. If you don't have a favorite, I highly recommend the S-K roto-ratchet. A finer ratchet has never been made. The socket selection is phenomenal. Virtually every size is represented, the common sizes are duplicated in 6pt, 12pt, standard, and deep sockets. The markings are clear and easily readable - stamped instead of laser-etched. The sockets are designed to wobble slightly on ratchet handles - a feature I don't care for myself, but it doesn't hurt anything. The full size wrenches are the craftsman wrenches you grew up with. No complaints. The "stubby" wrenches are really ignition wrench sets. Almost worthless in all applications - except when they're the only thing that will work. The nutdriver bits are junk. You will need to buy nutdrivers separately. The hex keys are fine, but only come in a plastic bag. Some storage/sorting mechanism would make them much more useful. I keep them as spares and use my bondhus balldrivers for normal use.Bottom line, purchase this, some breaker bars, a decent screwdriver set, a nutdriver set, and some bondhus balldrivers, and you will have all of your basic mechanics tools covered at a great price. As a bonus, it is all made in the USA and can be had for less (on sale) than a comparable consumer-grade set from Taiwan or China.

Buy this for the contents, not for the case...
By Ahoy Wanton Mull
Quality of the tools is actually excellent, but as all the other reviews have said, the case itself will not withstand the weight of all the contents without some help. If you're going to be mobile, you will have to get a different case (although the drawers are excellent), or re-enforce the case with a creative application of duct tape. You won't win any fashion shows with the duct tape case, but it will ensure you can pick this thing up fully loaded and not have it come apart forcing into a game of "260 piece Craftsman pickup".One positive about the case alluded to above is that you can use the trays independently of the case (ie you can just take them out). They take up quite a bit of room, but that's because they are molded plastic with nice little holds for every useful piece of the 260 piece set (every useful piece).End of the day, you just have to decide on the price. The contents are great and the usefulness of the case is simply dependent on how you plan to use it.One word of advice, when it comes in the mail (which was fast for me), make sure you take a good look at the case as it will probably have been jostled so much that you will want to make sure it's all snapped together before picking it up by the handle. ALL the contents come inside the case, but in plastic bags, which is a good thing as it gives you time to keep them together and safe while you decide how to fortify the case before taking the time to place all the pieces into their little slots.

Craftsman is great quality! I received the shipment on time and everything was as advertised. It was also cheaper than the local hardware store:)
