expsensive but well worth it
By mbank
I recently put in a pool and wanted to hook up a wireless speaker to my stereo system. I tried a rocketfish (from best buy) and brookstone wireless speaker (both around $150) but when you get past 50 or so feet I got a lot of crackling and dropped signals. both speakers had decent sound, and if you wanted to hook up an ipod directly to these speakers, I think they would have been fine. However I already had outside speakers attached to the house, so I wanted to bring the same music down to my pool area (around 100 feet from the house). The soundcast speaker/transmitter worked great - the sound was much better than the other 2 speakers and within a few seconds the signal gets picked up and there are no dropouts or crackling sounds. From my house (around 100 feet away) I could clearly hear the speaker. The set up is very simple - just hook up the transmitor to the auxilary out of your stereo and you are done. The outcast jr. often gets sold separately from the transmitor. There seemed to be two different transmitors to choose from - one was simply a transmitor only, the other was a transmitor that also was an ipod docking station. Since the price is the same for both ($99) you might as well get the ipod version (in this purchase the ipod transmitor was bundled with the outcast jr speaker).Essentially if I want to listen to music from my ipod but have it play on my wired speakers and the outcast jr, then you connect the ipod to an input on the stereo and not to the ipod transmitor. If you just want music to come from the outcast jr speaker only, you can place the ipod in the transmitor, and it will charge while it plays - in this set up you can also conrol the ipod from the speaker - skipping forward and backward in your playlist (or in pandora). While this was expensive, you get what you pay for. The sound is great, the set up easy, and it is very portable. If you are not too picky about sound quality and blasting music (which I am not) I would try the rocketfish or brookstone models first to see if they have enough range for your needs. If not, then the soundcast is a great (but expsensive) solution.

Outdoor and Indoor Music
By WhiskeynGolf
Nothing can compare to this masterpiece of technology. The system consists of a transmitter (there are two different ones to choose from - one iPod/iPhone centric, and one that is designed to interface with a PC through the USB port or with any audio device through RCA or 3.5 MM mini jack input) and the speaker-receiver unit (the OutCast or the OutCast Jr. The OutCast itself comes in two flavors, a large 100w triamplified unit and a smaller 60w piece which I have. Outdoor music never sounded so good. This is a really robust and user friendly music system. Battery life is up to 10 hours on a charge on the big one and about 6 hours on the small one. I am delighted with the smaller one and use it almost every day. We have had parties where we gave out before the OutCast Jr. did. This is a great buy and a perfect alternative to hard wired outdoor speakers. We use it indoors as often as outside. COOL PRODUCT
