It boasts a footswitchable Gain Boost feature that significantly expands its range of tones -- it's the only amp in its class that excels at both clean and overdriven tones, and it's the only amp in its class to offer a footswitchable boost. With the Gain Boost, players can instantly toggle between clean rhythm tones and overdriven leads, essentially duplicating the footswitchable functions of a 2-channel amp in an all-tube, handwired, simple, 2-knob package. To further expand its range of tones, the Special 6 also features a High/Low power switch that enhances low-volume tones with extra-smooth richness (when in half-power mode). I'm shocked at how good it sounds and how well it's built

This is a very solid, point to point, hand wired little gem. One channel, 6 watts, standby switch, overdrive with a pedal, and boost. It has huge transformers is really built well, solid cabinet, great handle and 4,8 and 16 ohm outputs. Better switches and jacks then a Blues Jr, (metal), and the build quality was also better. really clean and well designed.It sounded pretty good with the Chinese 6v6 and 12ax7 but I put JJ's in and it's a great sounding little amp. It's not as clean as a Blues Jr. but it breaks up beautifully and is pretty loud.And it's $200. It's an amazing little amp for the price. The best of all the low-power single channels. With no gimmicks or odd colorations, just pure tube.

I got this amp to get a great sounding tube amp. I had never played something less than 20 watts so I wasn't expecting it to be loud enough for band practicing without being mic'd.Not only is it loud enough for practice, but it is quite possibly the best sounding amp I have ever played.I have owned many Marshall and Fender tube heads and combos but this is actually my favorite. I had to change out the tubes first, but once I did so, I was blown away. The stock tubes are garbage. I put a Ruby EL34 and a Ruby 12AT7, and the sound was immediately 50 times better. I found the 12AT7 was better because it lowers the gain and helps you reach a sweet spot but also have more headroom.The feel and responsiveness of this Class A head is just amazing. For a head with as little features as this it is really fun to play. The distortion, crunch, and clean just sound sweet.I run it through a 212 cab loaded with 2 Eminence Red Coat Wizards and it is plenty loud. I even keep the volume at 12 o'clock and it is loud enough to hang in with the drums. I will mic it when I play live though obviously.The most amazing part though....is the price! Usually if you are looking for great tone, your most expensive piece of gear is your amp. I pride myself on my tone with this amp, and it cost me less than some of my pedals.This amp is gonna catch on quick. Watch my YouTube review of it.

I recently purchased the VHT special 6 head, I cant begin to tell you how awesome it is. First and foremost the built quality is tremendous, the attention to detail and the materials used is fantastic. I am very surprised that this amp has not been discovered and popular as other amps that cost 3x more and suck. Even stock this amp sounds fantastic, very warm and touch sensitive, but if you really want to have it go to the next level do what I did and replace the tubes with better ones and you will be blown away.
