VHT Cab

Originally, I thought this cabinet was coming with a Celestion speaker but I realized that was only the open back cabinet. Wow, I open up the box and this cabinet is made from quality materials. The finish is great and the sound is really good too. I actually ordered another speaker from Warehouse Guitar Speakers before I received the cabinet. I am glad I did the speaker itself is a little lack luster in mids for my taste. However, I believe with sometime for it to break in it's gonna sound really good. If you are not a tone junkie like me this speaker will work fine stock. I say for the price just go ahead and buy it. My plan is to buy another one and leave the stock speaker in it to compliment my Reaper 30 from WGS.

nice cabinet but cheap speaker

Just a heads up some of VHT's products are now chinese made by AXL. The brand name was sold from its American manufacturer (Steve Fryette). Steve now operates under the name of Fryette amplification and still makes some of the vht line. My point is that this cab is not the high end product of its namesake but a budget minded one that manufactured out of china.I picked this cabinet up for my low watt tube amp project, running the 1 watt blackstar ht1 through the 12" closed cab. I wanted the closed cab so that it wouldn't saturate the apt as much(Wide open would bring the property managers down on me before I could finish the second song, 1 watt is that loud). When I plugged in, the warm tube sound just wasn't pronounced in the sound. I swapped out the chrome vht 12" speaker with a signature series weber ceramic 12b I ordered ahead of time(awesome when it works out like that huh?). This is probably weber's most popular speaker in the low budget price range. Neither speaker had an hour of playing on them. They mature with time. But immediately out of the box, the weber was operating on a higher level than the stock speaker. Riffing through zeppelin's tea for one and the amp's even harmonics and nuances were all there. Warm tube saturation...The chrome vht speaker is one dimensional. Probably best used in metal but nothing interesting outside of that.(Yeah, I am picky) Seriously though, cheap stock speakers have been the name of the game for a long time. That is the reason why the after market guitar speaker scene is so healthy. So its not really a big deal or surprise that the speaker is cheap.The cabinet is fine. Looks and feels solid. Nice thick leather-esque handle. You'll need a metric set of allen wrenches(a multi tool for a bike will probably do) for a speaker change. Feels like a light bead of silicon is directly behind the backing board, so its not an easy removal once the screws are removed. Had to wrestle with it for a few minutes to remove it.Since the shipping was free and the weber cost $50 plus shipping, the total price tag is worth it. I have no buyers remorse.Best case scenario is that AXL via VHT sold the closed back cab w/o speaker for $99 with free shipping. Therefore bypassing the production of that worthless chrome speaker altogether, saving time, energy and resources for something more significant. But that's not going to happen. So this was the best case scenario and I have a chrome speaker for sale locally because of it...Cheers
