Product Description

Looks good, works well, well built

I'd been looking for a wall mounted bedside light for some years but everything I saw looked cheap or cost many hundreds of dollars. There seemed to be no sensible middle ground between junk and fancy schmancy. Frankly most lamps I see are so flimsy I wouldn't accept them for free: Articulating arms that sag beneath their own weight, plastic shades, ugly gold colored "brass" plating, and fall apart plastic 60 watt incandescent sockets. Accordingly, I was a bit nervous ordering this but the customer reviews were favorable so I went for it. It is solidly built, stands out stiff from the wall maintaining its position, and can be adjusted over the bed just as I hoped. Made in china the hidden side of the mounting plate looks approximate, built to fit rather than by close adherence to a specification, but it works. And it is cool and space age looking enough to make this engineer happy.

Looks nice and hardware feels solid

We bought two of these for some bright task-lighting in our kitchen. The hardware is very solid compared to other wall lights. These would be good as reading lights too, particularly if you replaced the halogen bulb with a cooler LED bulb. There are a few negatives which is why these get 4 stars and not 5:1) They come with halogen bulbs (gu10 socket if I remember correctly). Once these burn out we will replace them with LED bulbs--there is already surprisingly large selection of LED PAR bulbs available since these halogen PAR bulbs are being phased out soon.2) The square face plate was misaligned (rotationally, approx. 10 degrees) with the flanges that meet the wall on one of the lamps. I couldn't just twist the face plate versus the flanges since they are both rigid and solidly attached. The wall-mounted backplate therefore needed to be mounted off-axis so that the square face plate and arm are square with vertical. Not a huge deal, but something to consider before you start drilling holes.
