Amazing- feet still felt great after days full of walking on vacation.
By Wedge73
Comfort: A++A lesson learned from our last vacation was to invest in comfortable walking shoes so this year, we considered buying Clarks Waves before our trip. I tried on the shoes in the local Mall and liked how the shoe's rocker sole seemed to return energy to my steps. I bought the Hatch Oxford in black, thinking I couldn't go wrong with the 30 day money back guarantee. Well, we just got back from this year's vacation and I'm happy to report the shoes lived up to my expectations. I was on my feet 7-10 hours walking each day and when we returned to the hotel, I was consistently pleased at how my feet didn't hurt. Note: I have very flat feet, so I replaced the Wave OrthoLite footbed with New Balance X-Sole inserts (in another review). Without full testing, I can only say the combination of shoe and insole saved my feet from a painful vacation experience.Style: A+Another plus for these shoes is they provide all the comfort of trainers/sneakers without looking like you are using your gym shoes, especially when traveling in Europe. I could wear these with jeans, khakis, and slacks without drawing unnecessary attention to my feet. Note: The thread on the black oxfords is light brown, giving the shoes a "smart casual" look, so I would consider the Wave Hybrid if needing something more formal. To blend in with the local fashion, leave the Nikes and Reeboks in the closet and take your Waves instead.Durability: N/AHaving only had the shoes for 3 short (but intense) weeks, I can't speak on the durability of the shoes yet. However, the leather upper did get some scuffs during our trip that were easily buffed out with leather wipes. Also, I have a very pronounced heel strike but because of the shoe's design, my shoes show less than normal wear on the back of the heel.Summary: AThis shoe is for the traveler who doesn't want to be singled out in the crowd as "the American who wore his white tennies to the Vatican". So even though your half unzipped fanny pack, cargo shorts, and baseball cap may give you away, at least your shoes blend in with the crowd. If you are planning a vacation where you will walk a lot, and you don't want to wince at the thought of putting on or taking off your shoes, consider Clarks Waves.

Low Quality

I liked them while they lasted. One year old and both soles are cracked completely through from inside to outside at the ball of the foot. I wore them two or three days per week. I would expect this from shoes that cost much less than these. I have shoes that are more than 5 years old that still have decent soles. No more Clarks for me.

Not for everyone

I find it tough to assign stars to a product that I don't like myself, but I can imagine someone else being very happy with. I wanted to post a 3-star review to alert people to how this Clarks shoe is different from many others.I have several pairs of Clarks shoes, and they are by far my favorite for comfort and quality. This particular shoe has an unusual sole that almost "propels" you forward when you toe-off; I assume the sole's shape is the reason for the "wave" name.I can imagine some people really liking that motion, but I'm afraid I didn't care for it. In addition, the sole is very firm, which probably gives it good longevity, but makes each footfall considerably "harder" than other Clarks shoes that I have. The shoe is fairly heavy as well.By comparison, I have the Clarks Rhombus and the Clarks Un.Coil, which have more traditional fit and feel, and which I find incredibly comfortable. This may be the right shoe for you, but note the unusual nature of the design.
