5Workhorse

This is an extremely well built tool. I put it through a great deal of abuse using a powerful Bosch drill/hammer. It held up impeccably.

5Great, well-built, sturdy auger
By C. Wong
It used to be a real chore inserting slow release fertilizer spikes next to the trees as the soil is very compacted and hard. I could take a shovel and jam it into the ground after great effort, but the spike wouldn't easily go all of the way into the ground. I researched augers here and saw some of the lower priced ones were either flimsy or didn't have a hex end to mate with a drill or both! This auger is extremely heavy duty and has a hex head! It easily powered through heavy compacted dirt complete with rocks without a complaint.

5Robust Auger
By Jim Barton
This auger is certainly adequate for planting all the bulbs you could ever possibly want! I needed to place acid fertilizer in the bottoms of 12" to 18" deep holes around two dogwood trees. I drilled 6 holes around each tree using a heavy-duty, 1/2", 120 VAC, 3.8 amp, constant 340 rpm full load Milwaukee drill. I hit a couple large rocks or roots that stalled this powerful drill, but the auger suffered no damage whatsoever. The hex shank will not allow it to slip it the chuck, so if your drill does not have a slip clutch (and mine does not) you must use an auxilliary handle on the drill or you could easily sprain, or possibly break, your wrist! Golf ball size rocks the auger just spit out like marbles. This is a very robust tool that is well worth the very reasonable price and I highly recommend it.
